Search & offline history

Search runs on your device, over the messages it holds, so your search terms stay there.

  • Open Search to look across your chats. Results are grouped by chat.
  • It covers messages already on this device. Trash, archived chats, groups you've left and chats that are closed for now aren't searched.
  • Search covers up to a set number of chats, pinned first, then your most recent, and a set number of the newest messages in each. AChat's admins set both numbers, and the search page tells you how many chats it covers.
  • Ctrl+K (or ⌘K) finds a chat or a page.

Offline

  • Chats and files you've opened are kept on the device, so they load faster and can open offline.
  • Messages you write offline wait in the Outbox with Waiting to send, then send in order when a connection returns. A message says Sent only once it has arrived.
  • If some messages can't send, you can retry them or discard any you no longer need.
  • A chat with device and location history on needs a connection to open.

Saved on this device

Account, then Storage, shows what's saved on the device. Clear saved copies removes saved chats and files; they download again when you open them online, and your outbox isn't touched.

Signing out removes your chats from the device and any messages still waiting to send. See Devices & recovery key.
