Embeddable widget
Choose a room or channel, choose how it looks, then copy the code into your page. Build it on the widget page, which shows a preview with demo messages before you copy.
What you can embed
| Target | Condition |
|---|---|
| Anonymous room | Any room ID: 8–20 lowercase letters, numbers and dashes. A new room is created the first time someone opens the widget |
| Community channel | Only display-name channels in communities marked Anonymous allowed |
Private groups and channels that need an account can't be shown on other websites.
Layout and options
- In the page: the chat at a fixed size where you paste the code.
- Chat button: a button in a corner that opens the chat in a panel.
- Compact, Hide chat header and Offer sign-in (visitors can sign in to keep the room; chatting never needs it, and sign-in opens in a new tab).
Allowed websites
List up to 20 websites allowed to show the chat. Until you add one, any website can show it.
- For a room, only the person keeping it can change the list. Nobody can limit a room until someone keeps it.
- For a channel, only the community's admins can.
A website that isn't on the list shows a notice and a link to open the chat in AChat instead.
What visitors should know
- Anyone who visits a page with the widget can read the room and write in it, unless the room has a password. Messages follow the room's own history.
- Sign-in, microphone and location don't work inside another website. A chat that records location opens only in AChat.
- The website's browser settings may stop AChat remembering a visitor, so they might need to pick a display name again next time.
